Programme N0321A180005: Journalism, Media and Globalisation - master, full-time, double degree (NP_EMJ)

Academic year 2024/2025

The Mundus Journalism MA program gives students state-of-the-art insights into the current topics within journalism, media, and globalization. The curriculum combines academic, theoretical knowledge with journalistic skills to improve your ability to analyze, interpret and understand the global changes that increasingly challenge traditional boundaries between media, politics, technology, and culture. All in all, the program prepares students to work practically towards improving and maintaining the societal and cultural legitimacy of journalism globally.

Second-year specialization in Prague called Totalitarianism & Transition offers practical journalism training. At the same time, it gives students a solid understanding of the contemporary history of post-totalitarian countries, and they will work with key issues facing journalism in light of ongoing political, market-related, and technological transformations. Students’ theoretical knowledge becomes the point of departure for the practical courses in audio, video, and multimedia journalism production and will be a perfect point of departure if students for example would like to work within foreign correspondence.

Writing the thesis provides the opportunity to choose a subtheme/region/theory within the wider field of studies to produce an original piece of empirical work.

Alumni are entering successful and interesting jobs worldwide with many at the top of their profession. Mundus Journalism graduates find work in newsrooms, international organizations, information-based journalism, or communication departments in various global public and private organizations. Indeed, a majority of our current alumni have been hired for such jobs as a result of the international perspective and their analytical capabilities.

Programme supervisor: doc. PhDr. Alice Němcová Tejkalová, Ph.D.

Programme coordinator: Mgr. Sandra Lábová, Ph.D.
