Study programme P0312D200002: International Relations (DP_IR and DK_RK)

Department of International Relations and Department of Security Studies IPS jointly provide doctoral studies in the field of International Relations. This study program is intended for graduates of the social science studies who want to pursue career in the academia or in the highly qualified positions in the government administration, international organizations, media, NGOs or in private sector. Study assumes proficiency in the broad-based foundation in the field of international relations theory, history and European studies, on which students build their professional profile led by the dissertation thesis.

3. State doctoral exam


State doctoral exam (JPD060) verifies the knowledge of the doctoral student over the scope of the field of study indicated by the subjects' requirements. Special emphasis is put on the theoretical and methodological framework of the research problem and ability to solve the assigned scientific task. Student answers three questions of the IR theories, history of IR and European Studies. First two questions are related to the broader context of the dissertation.


4. Small defence


Small defence (JPD007) – assessment of the first draft of the dissertation thesis text by the proposed opponents, or members of the Department of International Relations or Security Studies. Results of the small defence determine process of the text finalization. Small defence has to take place one semester prior to the term of the final defence.


5. Defence of the dissertation thesis


Defence of the dissertation thesis– is carried out according to the conditions stipulated by the Study and Examination Rules of the CU. Besides the duly submitted work in printed and electronic version student also submits electronic version with highlighted changes undertaken after the small defence. In case of the substantial changes in the text student submits also report on the changes and their justification.
