Programme B0312A200010: Politics, Philosophy and Economics (BP_PPE)

Academic year: 2021/2022

Politics, Philosophy, Economics (PPE) is a multidisciplinary programme aimed to provide the students with a multifaceted view of the problems faced by contemporary society. It is inspired by the British model of undergraduate degree aimed at elite education of future leaders in civil service, politics, journalism, as well as business, first introduced in 1920s at the University of Oxford.

The required courses cover the three principal modules of the programme: politics, philosophy and economics. However, students also have an opportunity to adjust their study programme to their personal interests by choosing from a variety of elective and optional courses. Moreover, after the third semester, students choose one of three specialisations: Politics & Philosophy, Economics & Politics of Philosophy & Economics . This choice determines the required number of credits from the “specialising elective courses”.

The careers most commonly chosen by PPE graduates are in politics, banking and finance, business management, journalism and broadcasting, education, social work, and the many branches of the public services, including diplomacy and local government. Graduates of the PPE Bachelor’s programme may obviously also pursue graduate degree in PPE, Politics, Philosophy, Economics and other related disciplines at Charles University as well as other prestigious universities around the world.
